The McMillans of Brockloch & of the Holm of Dalquhairn
The first member of the clan so far found in Brockloch is John McMillan who was there in 1584 - probably just as a tenant. He may well have been the son of another John McMillan who inherited the lands of "le Recht Ile" - to the south of Brockloch - in 1552/3 from his father John Macmollane. These John McMillans were almost certainly members of the same family as the McMillan lairds of Arndarroch, who seem to have been the leading family of the Galloway clan in the 16th century; and the John McMillan who was laird of Arndarroch in 1507 may be the same man as the John McMillan in Glenken who was assessed for tax on Earlston Castle in 1490. It's impossible however at the moment to establish an unbroken line from the Brockloch family back to these earlier McMillan lairds in Galloway - still less to the Gilbert McMillan who was a Baron in Glenken in the early 1300s (until deprived of his barony by king Robert the Bruce for supporting the Balliols).
It's also difficult to work out the exact descent of the first few generations of the Brockloch family itself since so many of them were called John, but the most likely line can be found at:
