Second Generation

6. Hugh (or Ewen ?) M'millan [041]1 was born estimated 1715 in HLD, SCT. He died in Mar 1786 in Sable River, NS, CAN.
Hugh (presumably "Eoghan") emigrated from Corriebuidh, Glengarry, Scotland, in 1773 on the "Pearl" with three or more of his brothers. He set up as a merchant in Kortright, near Albany in upstate New York, until forced to leave by the outbreak of the American Revolution in which he and his brothers took the side of the crown. They took refuge in New York city where Hugh joined the Port Roseway Association - an organisation who planned to establish a settlement at Port Roseway (now Shelburne) in Nova Scotia. In 1783, following the evacuation of New York by the British, shiploads of refugees arrived at Shelburne, where Hugh planned to build a new home. He lived in the meantime with his son Duncan who had been settled at nearby Sable River since his discharge from Fraser's Highlanders in 1763. Hugh died there in March 1786.

Hugh (or Ewen ?) M'millan [041] and Elizabeth Unknown were married estimated 1735.
Hugh's wife - named as Elizabeth in one source - is said to have moved from NS to ON after Hugh's death to live with one of Hugh's other two sons (whose names are unknown). Hugh (or Ewen ?) M'millan [041] and Elizabeth Unknown had the following children:
